Printer form

Configuration Gate Printers Printers view Printer form

The Printer form enables you to add and edit printers. You can associate a printer with a gate lane using the Gate Lane Printer form (on page 1) or with a console using the Console Printer form (on page 1).

To enable printing on the client side in a hosted environment, you must set the ROADGATE005 (TICKET_PRINTING_MODE) (on page 1) configuration setting as Client at the Operator scope level. For more information on N4 settings, see Settings view.

To add or edit a printer:

  1. In the Hardware ID field, enter an ID that uniquely identifies the device.

The Hardware ID must uniquely identify a hardware device (printer or console). For example, if a console with Hardware ID, Test exists, you cannot add a printer with the same Hardware ID.

  1. Enter other optional information for the printer.

  2. Click Save.

The following table displays the optional fields in the Printer form.

Field

Description

Hardware Location

Enter the physical location of the hardware (printer).

Hardware IP Address:Port

Enter the IP address of a printer in your network and the port used by the printer, separated by a colon.

For example, if the IP address of the printer is 192.168.1.1 and the port used is 9100, enter the value as 192.168.1.1:9100. Port 9100 is the commonly used printer port.

You can also use the DNS name:Port to identify the printer on the network. The advantage of using a DNS name is that the IP address may be dynamic and change, but the DNS name is static and does not change.

It is recommended that you specify a valid IP address and Port combination in the Printer IP Address:Port field for N4 to support printing.

Printer Queue

Select the printer queue or the service name for this printer from a list of available printers.

Printer Driver

Select the printer driver that is required to determine the data and layout transformation for the printer.

If you want to use this printer for two-byte printing, you must select PDF as the Printer Driver. For more information, see Print two-byte characters on a gate ticket (on page 1).

If you want to use this printer for printing barcode labels for cargo lots using either N4 or N4 Mobile, you must select Zebra Printer Language as the Printer Driver.
